Exploring the Advancements in Optical Networking: A Deep Dive into 400ZR and 400G OpenZR+
E.C.I. NETWORKS has launched its newest product, the 400G QSFP-DD ZR/ZR+. This cutting-edge transceiver modules establishes a fresh benchmark for long-distance data transmission, addressing the escalating needs of IPoDWDM communication networks in data centers and broadband.
Overview:
The 400ZR, an Optical Interworking Forum (OIF) standard, facilitates the transport of 400GbE over extended distances through fiber optic cables using a single wavelength.
Primarily designed for interconnecting data centers within a 120 km range, the 400ZR optics (model number EN-QDD-DCO-ZR) meet the high bandwidth, speed, and low latency requirements of modern data center networks.
The 400G ZR+/ZR+HP OpenZR+ (model numbers: EN-QDD-DCO-ZR+, EN-QDD-DCO-ZR+P) extends the 400ZR specifications, enhancing performance while adhering to the OpenZR+ MSA standard.
Key features of 400ZR and 400G OpenZR+ optics include:
- Configurable speeds with negotiation for different capacities and reaches. For instance, 400 Gbps can support a nominal reach of 500 km, 300 Gbps up to 900 km, and 200 Gbps up to 2000 km (dependent on the optical line system for 400G OpenZR+ optics).
- Capacity to transport 4x100 Gbps and 1x400 Gbps.
- Capability to carry signals over long distances through fiber optic cables with periodic optical amplification.
- Full C-band tunability and support for dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) with 75-GHz and 100-GHz channel spacings.
- Operation in both amplified and unamplified modes.
- Support for 400 Gbps speed, allowing the port to function as a single 400GbE interface or be channelized to operate as four 100GbE interfaces.
Advantages of 400ZR and 400G OpenZR+ Optics
- Cost Efficiency:
- Integrating directly into IP routers and switches, 400ZR and 400G OpenZR+ optics eliminate the need for external transponders, reducing infrastructure costs and operational expenses.
- Green and Compact:
- These optics cut power consumption by up to 50%, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint. Additionally, the elimination of transponders leads to efficient use of space.
- System Efficiency:
- Both optics enhance operational simplicity with standard APIs and an open data model, boosting overall system efficiency.
- Flexible Channelization:
- 400ZR supports 1x400 Gbps and 4x100 Gbps channelization, while 400G OpenZR+ offers diverse speed options, with lower speeds increasing reach and reducing power consumption.
- High Power Mode:
- Models like QDD-DCO-ZR+P in the 400G OpenZR+ series operate in high-power mode, delivering a robust 0 dBm transmit power output.
Three different Variants:
The portfolio encompasses 3 key offerings, each tailored to address specific challenges in data center connectivity and network efficiency.
